Executive Summary: Music in Motion

Music in Motion will produce a CD and book set that provides a way for anyone, even those who have little to no music or dance background, to comprehend and to teach music to children. The CD will consist of tracks that focus on specific elements of music, such as pitch and tempo. The accompanying book will provide a variety of movement exercises that embody the musical elements in each track. The CD-book set will provide an easy, inexpensive way for parents, teachers and childcare providers to introduce music to children at an early age.

While there is heavy competition in the market of childhood art education, there is a lack of products that allow the average adult to facilitate and encourage interactive learning, especially in the arts. To introduce our product to potential customers, members of the development team will offer free workshops in child-friendly environments, such as community centers and schools. Parents will be encouraged to attend these workshops and the product will be available for purchase. Also, free workshops will be offered in hospitals and rehabilitation centers as a method of community outreach. Advertisements will be placed in Educational and Parenting publications. Also, flyers will be distributed to schools, community centers and local businesses.

Meagan Roloff, who has a background in music, will compose, play and record music for the CDs. With their combined dance knowledge, Alyssa Schoeneman and Janis Dingels will collaborate in creating movement activities. As all team members have ample writing experience, they will work together to compose the corresponding book. Alyssa will write instructions for the movement activities and explorations, while Meagan will write the definitions and explanations of the musical concepts. Janis will write a chapter describing the benefits of the overall learning method and offering tips for instruction. All members of the team will lead workshops and work to promote the business.

Music in Motion has sufficient funds to advertise and to publish our book. However, funds are still needed to hire musicians and to record the CD. The cost of recording is a one-time investment, but the product can continue to be produced indefinitely. In our second year, we expect to publish a second book of activities to correspond to the original CD. In future years, additional CDs of varying musical styles will be produced with new accompanying movement exercises. Also, the product has the potential to be produced for older children and to feature more advanced movement and musical concepts.

Music in Motion
stands out from its competition as an inexpensive, practical and convenient way to introduce children to music. It is especially unique in that it promotes interaction between children and adults. In an age where children are overly sedentary, Music in Motion is a great way to get them moving and excited about learning!
